Bub-Ba-Q

The Best BBQ In Town!

My husband is always in the mood for good barbeque.

So, this past weekend when I told him we were about to go eat at an award-winning barbeque restaurant, needless to say, he was more than ready to go!

We arrived Sunday evening at Bub-Ba-Q, located not far in the heart of Woodstock, off of Highway 92.  Upon walking in, we realized that the description of “award-winning” for this restaurant was actually an understatement.  Because mixed along the walls of this restaurant’s warm and friendly atmosphere, were TROPHIES.  Big ones.  Smaller ones.  And some really big ones.  So, we knew this was a special place.

Our waiter, Gregory, added to our good feeling, giving us great service with a friendly smile.  Upon ordering, he suggested mixing the mustard and sweet barbeque sauces to my husband, and I am not sure how he could read my husband’s mind.  He grew up on mustard sauce, and once we received our food, he said the Bub-Ba-Q version was one of the best he ever had.

I am a sweet sauce girl myself.  I found my taste among the four sauce choices right on the table - Hot and Spicy, Vinegar, Sweet and Mustard – something for everyone.  My daughter, is also a sweet girl, and she was pleased with her sweet wings, along with her side of corn on the cob.

My son, ordered the pork sandwich, and I have to add that he must have looked hungry when he ordered.  Because when it came, we were amazed at the amount of meat that could fit between those two oversized buns.  Needless to say, there was plenty left over to take home.

The huge Pork Sandwich.

My husband and I both ordered the Pork and Rib combo platter, which also offered us plenty of food.  Dave ordered Brunswick stew and corn for his sides, and I ordered corn fritters and baked beans.  Originally from Alabama, I knew if ordered anything with “fritter” in the name, it had to be good.  And it was.

Our dinner was topped off with a visit from “Bubba” himself, who seemed very humble when I made sure to mention his trophies.  After chatting, we discovered that Bubba is a busy man, currently working to open another Bub-Ba-Q location, and also planning to expand the Woodstock location.

A huge slice of Oreo cheesecake made the entire evening a success, and we left Bub-Ba-Q of Woodstock with our bellies full and our faces happy.  And, anytime you take two kids out for a meal and it is a success, you know it had to be good.
